Abstract
Respiratory compensations were evaluated in acute and chronic metabolic alkalosis. It was found that there were minimal or no respiratory compensations in dogs with metabolic alkalosis due to alkali infusion or gastric drainage of chloride. Similarly, no significant respiratory compensations were noted in patients with metabolic alkalosis resulting from K deficiency, gastric loss of chloride or alkali infusion. Keywords
