Abstract
The method of homogeneous deformation is used to derive the expressions for the elastic constants of solids crystallising in ZnS structure using the Lundqvist potential for the ionic cohesion. The derived expressions are utilised to explain several physical properties of the large number of semiconductor solids. Keywords
