Increases in recent mortality rates at high ages

Abstract
Recent Australian population mortality has shown some increases at age 60 to 65 and onwards as compared with previous Australian mortality experiences. This is surprising as substantial reductions have occurred at earlier ages. The note suggests a possible reason for what appears to be, on the face of it, a curious anomaly.
