Abstract
An attempt is made to clarify the discrepancy between the measured value of the domain wall mobility in bulk pure yttrium iron garnet and the value which is predicted, on the basis of simple phenomenological theory, from the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth, which is three orders of magnitude higher. Two possibilities are investigated: (i) the damping of the motion of the magnetisation is much greater at the frequencies concerned in wall motion than at the much higher frequencies of ferromagnetic resonance, (ii) wall motion is modified by complicated internal wall structures. Domain wall velocity measurements are reported in drive fields up to 10 Oe, with velocities up to approximately 500 ms-1.Keywords
