Abstract
A critical examination is made of the approaches used by recent investigators to the prediction of fluid flow distribution and pressure drop in spouted beds. Mathematical models are assessed both with respect to their theoretical validity and their agreement with experiment. Some of the models are rationally modified in order to increase their theoretical acceptability and their conformity to experimental observation. New experimental data on both flow and pressure distribution are presented. Desirable directions for future research are indicated. Keywords
