Oxygen Effect on the Superconductivity of Ba2YCu3O7-y

Abstract
The correlation of superconducting properties of Ba2YCu3O7-y to the oxygen deficiency y has been investigated using samples quenched in different temperatures in air. The magnitude of the superconducting diamagnetism at 77 K rapidly decreases with increasing y. The variations of T c and ΔT c (transition width) are presented and discussed in terms of the occupancy and distribution of oxygen atoms in the Cu layer between the Ba layers.
