Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for Sebaceous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma of the Ocular Adnexa

Abstract
The concept of sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is based on the idea that there is an orderly and predictable pattern of lymphatic drainage from a tumor to regional lymph node basins and that the first lymph node or nodes along the drainage pathway (the SLN[s]) function as an effective filter for tumor cells.1 With the widespread use of SLN biopsy in the past decade, a large body of data is now available that supports sequential lymphatic dissemination and initial entrapment of tumor cells in first draining lymph nodes.2-4
