Abstract
Diffuse, sclerosing osteomyelitis of the mandible is a disease which requires a synthesis of clinical. radiographic and histologic findings for a correct diagnosis. The biopsy technique is important. 99mTc-scintigraphy and enzyme histochemistry can assist the diagnosis. Antibiotics and cortisone are the treatments of choice. Decortication should be reserved for recalcitrant cases.
