Leukaemic Myelomatosis (Plasma-Cell Leukaemia)

Abstract
A case of leukemic myelomatosis is reported. The acute character of the disease and its relation to aleukemic myelomatosis are described. Diagnosis must primarily be based on cytological and histological studies of at least 20% plasma cells in the peripheral blood. In the case reported, only slight and presumably quite non-specific changes in the serum proteins were demonstrated. Thus, the diagnosis does not depend on the demonstration of myeloma protein. Possible causes of the absence of protein changes are discussed. The disease is usually completely refractory to treatment. Two cases are mentioned in which partial and complete remission was obtained.
