Erythrocyte Sensitizing Substances from Five Strains of Leptospirae

Abstract
Summary Serologically active erythrocyte-sensitizing substances (ESS) have been isolated from leptospirae. A method is described for the determination of antibodies to leptospiral-ESS. By this method the ESS obtained from each of the five strains studied, L. canicola, L. icterohemorrhagiae, L. hebdomadis, L. pomona and L. autumnalis reacted identically, which suggests that these leptospiral-ESS are genus, not serotype, specific.
