Labile Crosslinks in “Saturated” Elastomers as Measured by Stress Relaxation

Abstract
Stress relaxation measurements have been made on ethylene propylene terpolymer (EPT) vulcanizates. The relative stability of the EPT backbone, compared with highly unsaturated elastomers, makes it possible to isolate the reactivity of the crosslink. The effects of type of cure, cure time and change of atmosphere on the stress relaxation characteristics have been studied.
