Abstract
Injection molding of preforms is the first stage of the reheat-blow-molding process for making polyethylene terephthalate (PET) carbonated beverage bottles. While basically not difficult, successful preform molding involves several considerations of PET resin properties and their interaction with operating conditions that differ from other materials and may not be apparent to even the experienced injection molder. The blow molder entering this area can particularly benefit from a discussion of the factors involved. Keywords
