Diminished thyroidal activity in chicks in response to lysine deficiency

Abstract
Iodine-131 was injected into chicks either 1 day after, or 3 days before, imposing the dietary treatments. The rates of thyroidal uptake and (or) release of iodine-131 were used to assess thyroidal activity. Within 1 day of feeding a lysine-deficient diet, thyroidal activity declined.
