A Strategic Approach to Evaluating Manufacturing Performance

Abstract
Traditionally, manufacturing performance in a firm has been evaluated with static input-output measures such as factor efficiency. However, other measures relating to the corporate competitive stance and the corresponding variables in the manufacturing task are important in determining success. We suggest a set of potential profiles for different types of corporate mission and manufacturing tasks. These profiles are validated with survey data, and measures of both strategic focus and congruence are derived and evaluated.
