Abstract
More than 100 cases of severe gram-negative infection of the urinary tract in children were treated for five to 10 days with gentamicin at a dosage of 2 mg/kg per day; more than 80% of the patients responded favorably, and no adverse reactions were noted. The activity of gentamicin against coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative staphylococci is reported, and the use of the drug in the control and elimination of colonization of ventriculoatrial shunts by coagulase-negative staphylococci is discussed.
