Abstract
Experimental results obtained in Mössbauer studies on pure and doped magnetite are discussed. First results of a μSR study on natural and synthetic single crystals of magnetite are reported. The results are interpreted and related to theoretical and other experimental evidence, concerning the characteristics of the Verwey phase transition and the conduction band mechanism of magnetite. Keywords
