Abstract
An interlaboratory comparison of [human] platelet counting in clinical hematology laboratories in the USA is presented. Comparison of performance during the 1979 CAP [college of American Pathologists] platelet survey with performance in 1976 indicates a significant improvement in accuracy and interlaboratory precision. The calibration of instruments by clinical laboratories remains as a source of bias. Recommendations for calibration are presented.
