Abstract
The combustion of mixtures of hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and air has been investigated under various conditions of temperature, mixture composition and residence time, using both packed and unpacked furnaces. Under the appropriate conditions, unreacted hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, nitrogen oxides and thiocyanate were present, either singly or together. In no case was the combustion found to be complete. Some possible reaction schemes are suggested. Keywords
