Abstract
The effect of oxygen deficiency on T c of La1.1Ba1.9Cu3O y was examined by ac susceptibility measurements. The results indicate that superconductivity of the La-containing compound is much more sensitive to the oxygen deficiency than is that of YBa2Cu3O y . We suggest that the suppression of T c in the La-containing compound is not due to the oxygen defects in the 1D Cu-O layer but to those in the rock-salt-type BaO layer, which leads us to propose the possibility of the superconductivity occurring in the BaO layer. Keywords
