Abstract
Our analytical solution for the stresses in anisotropic coils is extended into the region of plastic deformation. This condition may occur in pulsed field coils for very high fields. With rising magnetic field, the plastic deformation begins at the inner radius and spreads over the entire coil with in a narrow range of only a few Tesla. In this condition, the coil can still be held together by an external reinforcement which then must support additional stress. A number of coils has been tested to the breaking point and the results are compared to the calculationsKeywords
