Guidelines for the role of preceptor

Abstract
An important element in the UKCC’s PREP proposals is the concept of preceptorship. Sonja-Janet Lee describes the differences between the role of preceptor and those of mentor, supervisor and assessor, then suggests how the role can be established by using the introduction of preceptorship to a paediatric high dependency unit as an example. Some ideas on future developments and potential problems are offered.
