Abstract
The humoral antibody response of laboratory mice and rats to larval antigens of the rodent bot fly, Cuterebra fontinella, was evaluated with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The development of circulating antibody in host serum was monitored during single and repeated infestations. Both rats and mice produced antibody to antigens of larval C. fontinella and demonstrated anamnestic responses to these antigens upon subsequent reinfestation. Rats developed strong resistance to infestation after 2 exposures, while mice were susceptible to infestation for the duration of the study. Immunobiological consequences of disrupted larval migration and random spikes in antibody activity are discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
