Abstract
The fourth-order noniterative -exchange diagrams involving double-isobar intermediate states are evaluated in momentum space, in the framework of noncovariant perturbation theory. The role of these diagrams is studied by making a detailed comparison with (i) the corresponding iterative diagrams and (ii) diagrams involving or intermediate states. Current prescriptions for replacing all time-orderings of those diagrams by (simple) pion-range transition potentials are tested.
