Abstract
The linearized augmented-plane-wave method has been applied to calculate the Fermi surface (FS) of U. In spite of having bands within about 1 eV of the Fermi level, the calculated FS is surprisingly simple. The -centered pieces have band masses , while the two -centered orbits have masses of the order of and . Comparison of the band density of states with the specific-heat density of states suggests some of the bands have effective masses of .
