Abstract
Certain leaf features of Aciphylla and Anisotome are compared and it is concluded that the separation of the genera is warranted. In Aciphylla the leaves are ternately or ternate-pinnately compound or probably reduced from such patterns. They are always apetiolate and the proximal pinnae are continuous with the sheath. The segment of the lamina have the morphologically adaxial surface restricted to a narrow groove and they are secondarily flattened. In Anisotome the leaves are pinnately compound. All species have petiolate leaves although in some, most leaves are apetiolate. In the latter the proximal pinnae are not continuous with the sheath. The lamina segments have both leaf surfaces equal in extent or the adaxial surface variously reduced. The monotypic Coxella Cheesem. et Hemsl. (C. dieffenbachii) agrees with Aciphylla in the above and other features and is considered to fall into synonymy under the latter genus, the species being Aciphylla dieffenbachii (F. Muell.)
