Abstract
Uronic acids in polysaccharides may be reduced by reaction of the propionated methyl ester with lithium borohydride in tetrahydrofuran. After hydrolysis and reduction of the monosaccharides the acetylated alditols may be separated by gas-liquid chromatography on a column of butanediol succinate. The method permits the simultaneous estimation of 4-O-methyl-D-glucuronic acid, glucuronic and galacturonic acids. Keywords
