Abstract
Many calculations involving polyacetylene use the solutions from the continuum model for the electronic eigenstates. The infinite bandwidth of this model causes difficulties. Here analytic forms for the electronic eigenstates in the presence of kinks obtained from a slightly modified continuum approximation which retains the finite-band feature of the discrete model are presented. These new solutions should provide more reliable results in all calculations. Keywords
