Construction of Central elements in the affine Hecke algebra via nearby cycles

Abstract

In this paper we show, following the ideas of Beilinson, how to construct Iwahori-equivariant perverse sheaves on the affine flag variety which are central with respect to the convolution product, starting from sperical perverse sheaves on the affine Grassmannian.
