Abstract
Nopal (Opuntia sp.) was traditionally used by the Mexican population for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The effects produced by directly liquified nopal and extracts from the plant in healthy and pancreatectomized rabbits are described. O. streptacantha apparently has hypoglycemic properties when orally administered in animals with experimentally induced diabetes and in healthy ones with physiologic hyperglycemia. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
