Abstract
The reactions of cobalt(II) chloride with hydrazine, monomethylhydrazine, and 1,1-dimethylhydrazine have been studied under various conditions and the magnetic and spectral properties of the resulting complexes used for stereochemical identification. Six-co-ordinate complexes are formed by hydrazine and monomethylhydrazine; in the cationic complexes [Co(N2H4)6]Cl2 and [Co(MeNH·NH2)6]Cl2, the hydrazines are unidentate but CoCl2, (N2H4)2 and CoCl2,(MeNH·NH2)2 are polymeric with bridging and bidentate hydrazines. With 1,1-dimethylhydrazine only a deep blue tetrahedral species CoCl2,(Me2N·NH2)2 is formed. Keywords
