Abstract
Explicit expressions are derived for the pressures and forces on a deeply submerged bottom seated halfcylinder and hemisphere due to Stokes' nonlinear gravity waves up to fifth order. The reflection of the waves due to the presence of the object is included in the analysis. The flow is taken to be irrotational, and the effect of the free surface on the reflected wave components is neglected, assuming deep submergence of the object. For both shapes, the theoretical forces are compared with the analytical and experimental force data published for small amplitude, first-order waves. Keywords
