Syndrome of Acquired Aphasia with Convulsive Disorder in Children

Abstract
Six children described show a syndrome of acquired largely receptive aphasia, sometimes recurrent, associated with some manifestations of convulsive disorder. Convulsions are generalized, partial, myoclonic or petit mal and are not closely correlated with the aphasic symptoms. Seizures are readily controlled medically. A severe paroxysmal eeg abnormality, usually diffuse, is observed; eeg improvement tends to parallel improvement in speech re-education. Prognosis with appropriate treatment is good.
