Abstract
To the Editor.— An unfamiliar eruption involving the backs and sides of the heels in two young basketball players who were brothers prompted this clinical report on calcaneal petechiae (black heel, pseudochromhidrosis, talon noir). The older boy, age 17, was referred to us by an internist who was concerned about a peculiar black discoloration on the heels of the boy which led him to consider the possibility of a melanoma. It is of interest that a patient with a similar condition reported by Juhlin and Pontén1 had actually undergone wide excision and skin grafting. Our patients had first noticed their lesions while playing basketball about one year prior to their first visit. The lesions had nearly cleared during the summer but had recurred with the beginning of basketball season.
