Differential Determination of Alkylmercury and Inorganic Mercury in River Sediment

Abstract
Steam distillation for differentiation of inorganic Hg and alkylmercury, connected to Hg measurement by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry, was effective and suitable for river sediments. S in sediments interfered in the determinations, but increasing the HCl concentration in the procedure eliminated the interference. With this technique down to 2.5 ppb Hg in sediment can be determined.
