Thymus grafted nude mice showed no tolerance to neonatal heart grafts of thymus donor origin. This finding is in contradiction with the Jerne hypothesis on the somatic generation of immune recognition and in agreement with Bretscher's hypothesis on generalized autoimmunity. Keywords
