Determination of the Oxygen Content of Air in Beer by Gas-Solid Chromatography

Abstract
A method for the determination of the oxygen content of air in beer is described, involving absorption of the carbon dioxide by alkali followed by the separation of the oxygen and nitrogen by gas-solid chromatography. Collection of the gas in conventional apparatus was found to be unsatisfactory owing to the absorption of oxygen by a beer-alkali mixture, but this difficulty was avoided by collecting the gases over mercury and removing all the beer before allowing the gases to come in contact with the alkali.
