PREFRONTAL LOBECTOMY IN SCHIZOPHRENIA

Abstract
FRONTAL lobe surgery for mental disorders was started at the University of Minnesota in 1940. At that time a new form of psychosurgery, termed prefrontal lobectomy in keeping with present day terminology, was introduced. Excision of the frontal areas was performed on each hemisphere in a coronal plane which passes just anterior to the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle.
