Abstract
This study describes the evolution of very large cloud bands originating from the eastern subtropical Pacific Ocean, and their relation to the American subtropical jet stream. In many cases, these cloud bands interact with polar lows and then give rise to a very large typical midlatitude cyclone. The cloud pattern associated with this cyclone is very similar to that described by the Norwegian cyclone model, although its origin is quite different. Keywords
