Abstract
The synthesis and some properties of N-(pyrrol-1-yl)maleimide (1) and its isomer (6) are described. The structure of 2-(pyrrol-1-yl)-4,7- dihydro-4,7-epoxyisoindole-1,3(7aH,3aH)-dione (8), a key intermediate in the synthesis of (1), has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 298 K, and refined by least squares to a residual of 0.046 for 1977 'observed' reflections. Crystals are triclinic, Pī, a 8.472(5), b 10.130(6), c 12.760(8) Ǻ, α 91.12(5), p 92.09(5), γ 102.90(4)°, Z 4.
