Oil Film Temperature and Thickness Measurements on the Piston Rings of a Diesel Engine

Abstract
The upper and lower temperature limits of piston ring operation in a diesel engine have been established from experience, but it was thought that closer investigation of the thermal and vibrational behaviour of piston rings might improve understanding of the mechanism of ring lubrication and the causes of its breakdown, and possibly lead to improved performance.
