Abstract
On the basis of long-term and extensive field observations in Nigeria, two varieties are distinguished in Dacryodes edulis (G. Don) H. J. Lam, namely var. edulis and var. parvicarpa J. C. Okafor var. nov. The evidence for this taxonomic conclusion is presented. A key to the two varieties is provided together with their detailed descriptions. A type specimen is also designated for the new variety. The potential of this species as a source of food and for agro-forestry practices is indicated. Keywords
