The Atmosphere of Kappa Pavonis: I. A Coarse Analysis

Abstract
High dispersion spectra obtained at 12 phases of the cepheid κ Pavonis are analysed by curve of growth methods, and the variations in atmospheric parameters determined. Density fluctuations take the form of a longitudinal compression pulse, amplitude ratio 10 4 and duration 0.4 P , superimposed on a regular pulsation probably associated with the gross motion of the atmosphere. Assuming that θion = θexc −0.15, abundance determinations of 30 elements are made which indicate that e -process elements are deficient by a factor of 3 and the s -process elements by 23 with respect to the Sun. The results strengthen the previously held opinion that κ Pavonis is a member of the disk population.
