PULMONARY FUNCTION FOLLOWING DECORTICATION OF THE LUNG

Abstract
The effect on pulmonary function of surgical decortication was studied in 4 cases of hemothorax and 5 of tuberculous pleural disease. In hemothorax, 3 cases operated upon soon after onset of the conditions regained normal function, and the 4th case, 1 of long duration, showed improvement but not normal restoration. Of the tuberculous cases those without parenchymal disease and of shortest duration had the best results in terms of return of function.
