Abstract
As the level of tolerance for lead exposure in childhood is reduced, low-dose sources of lead are being reexamined, including lead in drinking water.1 2 3 Despite the recent attention to water from elementary-school fountains, the largest daily quantity of water per unit of body weight is ingested by infants who are fed reconstituted formula. For example, even if the water used to reconstitute formula contains 50 ppb of lead (50 μg per liter [0.24 μmol per liter]), a 5-kg infant receiving 600 ml of such formula daily would ingest 6 μg of lead per kilogram each day, an amount sufficient to result in a positive lead balance.4This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
