Electron spin resonance spectra of ester radical cations; evidence for hydrogen atom migration

Abstract
Exposure of CH3CO2CHD2 in dilute solutions in CFCI3 to 60CO γ-rays at 77 K or to X-rays at ca. 4 K gave only the rearranged cation CH3C(OH+)–OĊD2, as detected by e.s.r. spectroscopy. This result is discussed in the light of current ideas concerning the structures of ester radical cations.
