Solid State Detectors of Fission Fragments For the Rem-dose Measurement of Mixed Proton and Neutron Radiation

Abstract
A method for the dosimetry of mixed proton and neutron radiation with the help of a solid state track detector is described. The distributions of the emission angles of fragments and the total cross sections for the fission of 238U, 237Np, 232Th and 209Bi nuclei under bombardment by protons with energies between 70-200 MeV were determined. The characteristics of detectors consisting of a dielectric in contact with a heavy metal target are presented. The range of sensitivity to the dose equivalent of the mixed proton and neutron radiation was determined. Clinical dosimetry of the medical proton beam from the ITEP [Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics] synchrotron is presented. U and Bi detectors were used.
