Abstract
A review of the literature discloses that calcification of the myocardium with bone formation is an extremely rare phenomenon. We have been able to find reports of only five cases. While heteroplastic bone formation in sclerotic arteries has been made the subject of investigation by Buerger and Oppenheimer1and Harvey,2no study has been made of calcification of the myocardium with bone formation. We believe, however, that if calcification of the heart is extensive enough to be demonstrated roentgenographically, ossification should be considered at the same time. Calcification of the myocardium without bone formation has been mentioned in the following reports: Scholz,3in an extensive review of the literature up to 1924, referred to a total of thirty cases of myocardial calcification, adding a case of his own.
