Abstract
The bands of Zn and Cd have been unambiguously located by photoelectron spectroscopy using 40.81-eV radiation. In Zn a single peak due to the band of half-width 1.1 eV is found 9.5 eV below Fermi level, while for Cd, the doublet is resolved at 10.2 and 11.1 eV below the Fermi level. The relevance of these results for band-structure calculations and for the interpretation of related optical and characteristic energy-loss experiments is discussed.
