Abstract
The electronic spectra of the mononegative ions of naphthalene, anthracene, tetracene, phenanthrene, pyrene, perylene, biphenyl, terphenyl and quater‐phenyl have been qualitatively interpreted with the aid of L.C.A.O.‐M.O. calculations including configuration interaction. The calculated dipole strengths are on the average about twice to three times as high as the experimental values. In a relative sense, however, the agreement between observed and calculated dipole strengths is satisfactory. Keywords
