Abstract
The polarizability of O2- is investigated by means of a simple electronic model. While in cubic oxides α is proportional to the cell volume V, in anisotropic and covalent materials α≈Vn (where n is between 3 and 4) in compounds such as the ferroelectric perovskites.Keywords
